Happy CNA/HHA Week!

Happy CNA/HHA Week!

CNAs have an incredibly positive impact on older adults and in home care. This year we honor all the nursing assistants and home health aides during the week of June 16-22.

National Nursing Assistants week has been celebrated since 1977. We wish all of our CNAs and HHAs a very Happy National Nursing Assistant Week!

As certified nursing assistants and home health aides for Home Care Providers, we recognize that you and others in the profession like you, have direct and consistent contact with clients at their toughest moments. While compassion and patience are at the top of the list for qualities possessed, we know you must harness flexible thinking and strong communication skills to be effective in your career as well.

We would like to celebrate you and all your accomplishments this year, especially as you’ve been on the frontlines of care day in and day out!

If you are interested in a career as a CNA, or with Home Care Providers, you may have questions about which specific skills you need to be successful. So, whether you are considering working in the field, going through training currently, or already working, here are a few of the most important qualities of successful CNAs.

  1. Patient
Patience is a key must-have since nursing assistants are responsible for providing constant care and comfort to patients who may be irritable related to current medical or health conditions. And in some situations, older adult clients may be confused, scared, or weary of their situation and the people trying to help them.
  2. Compassionate
Fostering a caring bedside manner that can put others at ease is crucial to being successful in healthcare in general and will assist in allowing CNAs to connect and support their clients.
  3. Professional
CNAs are mediums between patients and other medical professionals. It is beneficial to know wording pertaining to medical terminology in order to follow proper safety protocols and communicate effectively with others in and around your healthcare team.
  4. Flexible
Every day is a different day – from scheduling, to the clients, to the needs being met. Working day in and day out taking care of others requires adaptability to situations and circumstances as no one client is the same and singular approaches to care won’t always work. Therefore, creativity and flexibility is an essential characteristic.
  5. Cheerful Disposition and Optimism
There are often difficult and negative situations encountered in nursing care. Alas, it is important to stay positive and cheerful as this will radiate outward to those around you and foster a healthy environment for all.
Besides, finding the best in every situation can contribute to positive mental health and less burnout!

Remember to thank your local CNAs and HHAs this month for their contribution!
